The moisture has relieved some of the stresses in the one side of the paper and that side gets shorter. So curl forms or moves toward the side from which moisture moves last or toward the side from which moisture migrates last. Many HP Laserjets have the ability to lower the fuser temperature. Store paper in a drier environment. Paper reams generally have a moisture-proof barrier on the inside of the wrapper. Why does paper curl in the first place?
Paper curl is caused by an excess amount of moisture in the paper. The first step to ensure less paper curl is to store your paper in a cool, dry area. By doing so, you will reduce the amount of moisture and humidity the paper is exposed to. The next step is to always fan the paper before placing in the machine.
By fanning the paper you will reduce the amount of static between each sheet, allow the paper to breathe, and will reduce jamming issues. If the paper has been sitting inside the machine for a long period of time it is especially important to fan the paper, flip over the paper, and rotate the stack degrees.
When paper sits inside of the machine it gains a lot of moisture due to the fusing assembly which heats and applies the toner to your page. If none of those tips seem to be doing the trick there are a couple of other possibilities. Significance of clarifying mechanism that generates paper curl.
Electro photographic copiers and printers put images on paper by transferring toners resin particles to paper using static electricity. The system comprises a fuser assembly that heats this toner image to melt and adhere toner to the paper.
Paper curl occurs, depending on heating conditions at the time or the environment, and where the paper was kept before use. Because paper curl deteriorates printing quality or causes paper jams, defining the curling originating mechanism and creating countermeasures against it have been desired. But because the paper is heated during transport and the paper properties themselves depend on the temperature-humidity environment and paper brand, clarification of the mechanism has been difficult.
With that background, Ricoh focused on the heat difference between the front and reverse sides of the paper among several causes of curling origination and clarified the curling originating mechanism based on the temperature difference; this had gone undefined until then.
By predicting curl based on this mechanism, we can design a fuser to suppress curling origination to the minimum.
This also enables a stable paper path with fewer paper jams.
